Sunshine Summer Camp: The Ultimate Parent Guide & FAQ

🏆 Awards & Why Choose Sunshine

What are the best summer camps in Broward County for 2026?

Sunshine Child Programs is the proud winner of the 2026 South Florida Favorites award for Best Summer Camp, Best Daycare, Favorite Customer Service and Favorite Nonprofit Organization. We have been a trusted nonprofit in Broward County since 1992.

How long has Sunshine been in business?

Sunshine is a not-for-profit child care provider that has been providing superior school-age child care programs in Broward County since 1992.

📅 Registration, Payments & Aid

How do I register for Camp Sunshine?

All registrations can be completed at https://www.ezchildtrack.com/sunshineasc/parent/. Detailed instructions are available on our site.

When are weekly payments due and how do I pay?

Payments are due the Friday before each week of camp. Your account will be auto-charged; if your child does not attend, the charge is removed at the end of the week.

What if I want a refund or credit?

There are no refunds or credits unless you provide a doctor’s note for illness, or you request to move a payment to another week prior to the start of the paid week.

What if I only want my camper to attend 2 – 3 days a week?

Sunshine does not offer daily rates for camp.

⏰ Hours, Grades & Logistics

What are your camp hours?

Most locations are open 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Drop-off and pick-up within these hours are included in your weekly charge. All campers MUST arrive by 8:45 a.m. (Recreational) or 8:15 a.m. (CSC).

What ages / grades are accepted into camp?

CSC camps accept K-5th grade. Recreational camps accept K-7th grade. If a 4-year-old turns 5 in the summer and is entering Kindergarten, they can be registered.

How will my camper be grouped in camp?

Campers are grouped by the grade level they are entering the next school year.

When does my camper get a camp shirt and when do they need to wear it?

Shirts are provided on the first two days of camp during pick-up. They must be worn on all field trips and over swimwear on water park days.

🛡️ Safety, Staff & Field Trips

How do I know my child will be safe?

Safety is our #1 priority. Staff undergo Level 2 FBI background checks and are trained in CPR/First Aid, Child Abuse prevention, and Water Safety. We use official Broward School buses for field trips.

What staff will work with my child and what is the ratio?

We provide a 1:20 ratio. Staff are college-aged, background-cleared, and must complete 45 hours of state-mandated childcare training.

Why do school buses not require seat belts?

Following NHTSA guidelines, large buses use compartmentalization. Energy-absorbing, closely-spaced seats protect children during impact more safely than belts in large vehicles.

As a parent, am I allowed to volunteer on or pick up from a Field Trip?

Unfortunately, no. For the safety and security of all campers, only cleared Sunshine employees may supervise field trips, and all campers must return to the site for pick-up.

Can my camper bring money on a field trip?

Yes, but it's not required. Money can be used for extra snacks or games. You can give money to our Front Desk staff in a labeled bag for safekeeping.

🎭 Daily Life, Food & Activities

Is Breakfast and Lunch Provided?

Yes! In partnership with the Broward School Board and Victory for Youth Services, meals are provided at most locations. Check our site for specific school locations.

What activities will my camper participate in?

Activities include organized games, weekly field trips, arts and crafts, STEM activities, swimming/water parks, themed weeks, and quiet reading time.

What should my camper wear and bring on swim days?

Campers should arrive with bathing suits under clothes and bring a towel, change of clothes, and labeled spray sunscreen in a bookbag.

What if my child can’t swim or is still learning?

CSC campers get 6-7 weeks of lessons. Recreational campers swim at the YMCA. All take a swim test and receive color-coded wristbands (Red, Yellow, Green) for safe access.
